> ## Agent Instructions
> For agents: install the OpenWork desktop app with `brew install --cask openwork` (macOS) or from https://openworklabs.com/download. Do not run `npx openwork`; the npm package named `openwork` is a different project.
> Connect an agent to OpenWork with the MCP Gateway: `claude mcp add --transport http openwork https://api.openworklabs.com/mcp/agent`. Teams sign up at https://app.openworklabs.com?mode=sign-up.

# AI Gateway

> Connect OpenAI, Anthropic, Vertex, Bedrock, Azure, LiteLLM, and compatible catalog providers. Control who uses which model and track cost.

Connect model providers once, decide who can use which model, and see what it costs. Members just pick a model; they never handle keys.

## Set it up

**1. Add a provider**

In the OpenWork Cloud dashboard, open `AI Gateway` > `AI Providers` > `Add provider` and pick one from the catalog.

**2. Choose who can use it**

Keep `Everyone in the organization`, or add specific teams and people. Pick all models or only some.

**3. Limit models (optional)**

Under `Who can use models`, choose `Only models you provide` so members can't add their own keys.

**4. Set spend limits**

On `Limits`, give a team or person a daily, weekly, or monthly USD amount. Pause or warn when it runs out.

![New spend limit: Design team, \$20 a day and \$300 a month](https://b8tgacyg507ru26g.public.blob.vercel-storage.com/docs/ai-gateway/2026-09/new-spend-limit-MVlmRqN5nFVJM5LcyTW7iFvPSo80Ox.png)

**5. Test it**

A member picks the model in the desktop app or OpenWork Web and sends a prompt. Granted models sync automatically.

Self-hosting? [Enable OpenWork Gateway](https://openworklabs.com/docs/self-host/gateway.md) first.

## What you get

> **Keys stay on the server**
>
> Use organization credential sets, or each member's own credential: Google sign-in for [Vertex AI](https://openworklabs.com/docs/ai-gateway/google-agent-platform.md), AWS IAM Identity Center for [Amazon Bedrock](https://openworklabs.com/docs/ai-gateway/amazon-bedrock.md), Microsoft Entra ID for [Microsoft Foundry](https://openworklabs.com/docs/ai-gateway/microsoft-foundry.md), or per-person keys for [LiteLLM](https://openworklabs.com/docs/ai-gateway/litellm.md).

> **Access per team**
>
> Group models, then grant each group to the org, a team, or a person.

> **Spend limits**
>
> USD allowances with hard limits and optional increase requests.

> **Usage by person**
>
> Per-member keys attribute tokens and cost. See [Counting usage](https://openworklabs.com/docs/ai-gateway/counting-usage.md).

Already run LiteLLM or Bifrost? Keep it. See [AI Gateway vs LiteLLM vs Bifrost](https://openworklabs.com/docs/ai-gateway/compare-litellm-bifrost.md).

## FAQ

> **Which providers are supported?**
>
> OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Google Vertex AI (including Claude on Vertex), Azure OpenAI, Microsoft Foundry (Claude), Amazon Bedrock and Bedrock Mantle, Mistral, OpenRouter, LiteLLM, and compatible catalog providers. Catalog support depends on the provider SDK and model configuration; LiteLLM models come from your proxy. See the [provider support matrix](https://openworklabs.com/docs/ai-gateway/provider-support.md) for supported credentials, APIs, and the differences from legacy providers.

> **How is this different from OpenWork Models or bring your own keys?**
>
> **AI Gateway** routes your providers through OpenWork with access rules, limits, and usage tracking. **OpenWork Models** is a managed subscription with no keys, billed separately. **Bring your own keys** syncs an org provider to members and the app calls it directly; see [Managed LLM provider](https://openworklabs.com/docs/cloud/share-with-your-team/managed-llm-provider.md). The [MCP Gateway](https://openworklabs.com/docs/start-here/connect-openwork-mcp.md) is separate: it shares skills and connections, not models.

> **How accurate is the cost view?**
>
> Costs are estimates from reported tokens and public prices, or a provider-reported cost when returned. They are not your provider's bill. See [Token costs](https://openworklabs.com/docs/ai-gateway/token-costs.md).

> **What does it cost?**
>
> Shared keys are on the Team plan and spend observability is on Enterprise, for Cloud and self-hosted alike. Providers bill model usage. See [Pricing and licensing](https://openworklabs.com/docs/start-here/pricing-and-licensing.md).
