> ## Agent Instructions
> For agents: install the OpenWork desktop app with `brew install --cask openwork` (macOS) or from https://openworklabs.com/download. Do not run `npx openwork`; the npm package named `openwork` is a different project.
> Connect an agent to OpenWork with the MCP Gateway: `claude mcp add --transport http openwork https://api.openworklabs.com/mcp/agent`. Teams sign up at https://app.openworklabs.com?mode=sign-up.
> Step-by-step agent guide: https://openworklabs.com/docs/start-here/use-openwork-from-an-ai-agent.md
> OpenWork in Slack is private alpha for approved organizations. Setup guide: https://openworklabs.com/docs/slack/overview.md. Agent skill: https://openworklabs.com/.well-known/agent-skills/set-up-openwork-slack/SKILL.md.

# Connect OpenWork MCP

> Add OpenWork MCP to Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, VS Code, or ChatGPT with one command: https://api.openworklabs.com/mcp/agent.

Bring your organization's skills, plugins, and connections into the agent you already use.

**1. Add the server**

**Claude Code**

```sh theme={null}
claude mcp add --transport http openwork https://api.openworklabs.com/mcp/agent
```

Then run `/mcp` and select `openwork`. Add `-s user` for every project. [Guide](https://openworklabs.com/docs/model-context-protocol/claude-code.md)

**Codex**

```sh theme={null}
codex mcp add openwork --url https://api.openworklabs.com/mcp/agent
codex mcp login openwork
```

[Guide](https://openworklabs.com/docs/model-context-protocol/codex.md)

**Gemini CLI**

```sh theme={null}
gemini mcp add --transport http openwork https://api.openworklabs.com/mcp/agent
```

Then run `/mcp auth openwork` in `gemini`. [Guide](https://openworklabs.com/docs/model-context-protocol/gemini-cli.md)

**OpenCode**

```sh theme={null}
opencode mcp add openwork --url https://api.openworklabs.com/mcp/agent
opencode mcp auth openwork
```

[Guide](https://openworklabs.com/docs/model-context-protocol/opencode.md)

**Cursor**

[Add to Cursor](cursor://anysphere.cursor-deeplink/mcp/install?name=openwork\&config=eyJ1cmwiOiJodHRwczovL2FwaS5vcGVud29ya2xhYnMuY29tL21jcC9hZ2VudCJ9) in one click, or paste the URL as a remote MCP server. [Guide](https://openworklabs.com/docs/model-context-protocol/cursor.md)

**VS Code**

```sh theme={null}
code --add-mcp '{"name":"openwork","type":"http","url":"https://api.openworklabs.com/mcp/agent"}'
```

Or [install in one click](vscode:mcp/install?%7B%22name%22%3A%22openwork%22%2C%22type%22%3A%22http%22%2C%22url%22%3A%22https%3A%2F%2Fapi.openworklabs.com%2Fmcp%2Fagent%22%7D), then run `MCP: List Servers` > `openwork` > `Start Server`. [Guide](https://openworklabs.com/docs/model-context-protocol/vs-code.md)

**Claude Desktop**

`Settings` > `Connectors` > `Add custom connector`, then paste `https://api.openworklabs.com/mcp/agent`. [Guide](https://openworklabs.com/docs/model-context-protocol/claude-desktop.md)

**ChatGPT**

`Settings > MCP servers`, then paste `https://api.openworklabs.com/mcp/agent`. [Guide](https://openworklabs.com/docs/model-context-protocol/chatgpt.md)

Other clients, including [Windsurf](https://openworklabs.com/docs/model-context-protocol/windsurf.md) and [Zed](https://openworklabs.com/docs/model-context-protocol/zed.md): use `https://api.openworklabs.com/mcp/agent` as a remote MCP server with OAuth.

**2. Sign in and pick your organization**

Your client opens a browser. Sign in, or [create a free account](https://app.openworklabs.com?mode=sign-up), and choose the organization to use.

**3. Ask your agent**

Try "Which OpenWork organization am I connected to?" or "Use my team's weekly status skill on this repo."

> **How do I switch organizations?**
>
> Log out of the `openwork` server in your client and sign in again. The organization is pinned to the token.

> **Which clients are verified?**
>
> OpenCode is verified end to end. The others follow OpenWork's OAuth profile but are setup only. See [MCP Gateway](https://openworklabs.com/docs/cloud/run-in-the-cloud/cloud-mcp.md#reference).

> **Self-hosted URL?**
>
> Use your own Den API origin, by default `https://api.<your-den-web-host>/mcp/agent`.

> **401 or invalid\_grant?**
>
> Log out and sign in again. See [troubleshooting](https://openworklabs.com/docs/cloud/run-in-the-cloud/cloud-mcp.md#reference).

> **How do I share a skill so it shows up here?**
>
> An admin publishes it in OpenWork Cloud and grants access. See [Share your setup](https://openworklabs.com/docs/start-here/do-work-with-it/share-your-setup.md).
